UX and UI Principles

Doomsday Run is a zombie-themed game that contrasts the typical dark and scary zombie theme with a light-hearted young student as the main character.

For the most part, the game scene and the menu scene use cooler colours that suggest the game is set in the still of night. However, the main character uses a warm colour pallet, which eludes to the happy, optimistic attitude of the student.

The game is designed to be used by a smartphone device held in a landscape orientation or a desktop monitor. The buttons are deliberately large, which makes for an easier user experience. All the buttons throughout the game become slightly darker when the mouse hovers over them, suggesting that the buttons are interactable. They then become an even darker shade when they are clicked, which provides feedback to the user that their command has been recognised by the game.

Both scenes are very similar to each other, which creates a sense of familiarity throughout Doomsday Run. The menu scene shows the main character in the background, foreshadowing its importance in the game to come.

What an epic game! I adore the structure behind the menu; it provides a deeper understanding of the game concept. The button sizes are also perfectly tailored to the game, making them easy to click and handle.
